Chalkboard what is this

Anyone can double click to edit the block below. Its content is not necessarily from Sedition·com or reviewed or approved by us. Your chalkboard entry will stay there until someone else does the same or the server cache is reset or expires in a week. Rules: XHTML strict, no styles, no scripts, no <pre/>, no attributes except href for links, 750-ish characters, and, as usual, threats and abuse won’t be tolerated unless they’re very, very funny.

Why would you want to do this? You can put an ad and link for your site there. You can put a “Sedition·sucks” there. It’s above the fold on the top page and it’s all yours until the next visitor comes along.

Why would we want to do this? 1) Free speech is fun. 2) Cross-pollination is fun. 3) A Web 2.0 résumé point is nice when poking the job market with a sharp stick.

"I will probably write an hour a day and spend eight hours a day biting my knuckle, worrying about not writing."

[Sedition · I think just about anyone I know would say that cat and I have more in common than is any good for anyone but me. I could have saved him. I think. I really wonder how much of it is brain chemistry and how much is conflicts accidentally accepted as truths.]

I think this Rolling Stone article would be worth a read as well.
I've been a bit too shy to ask, but have you read Infinite Jest? I remember reading somewhere a remark that Infinite Jest was part suicide note (it'd be a pretty long one at that). Reminds me of your post on the topic. I have wondered in that "I-would-give-my-left-thumb" kind of way what his take would have been on that piece...
In an eulogy, Johnathan Franzen put it in a notable way: "He'd gone down into the well of infinite sadness, beyond the reach of story, and he didn't make it out."
