the book of embraces, chapter Priscilla

She was a pretty young Chicana from Arizona, and New Mexico sometimes. He went to visit her in Boise. It was a very long drive to visit a girl but he liked her and hadn’t had a girlfriend for three years. Everything was going well. She liked Star Trek—she was even writing a script for it—and she was honest about herself and they had to share her bed because the apartment was so small. He stayed for a week. He hadn’t had sex for three years and she had only had sex once in her life though she was twenty-five. They didn’t have sex.

She said radioactive carbon dating was no good and that dinosaur fossils were either a trick or just not very old. He would have made love to her for six days like it was a goddamn honeymoon if she just hadn’t said that.
