Ashley’s guide to rhetoric, chapter uno

Tuesday, 9 June 2009

The phrase–

According to you.

–does not logically end a discussion. If you find that a discussion ends when you say this, something trumped logic. If reason is no longer in action, the gates are open to the Law of the Jungle. If jungle rules are in effect, ask yourself: are you the biggest, meanest chimp? Or did you maybe just fling feces at one bigger and meaner than yourself who is currently otherwise occupied but just might find time for you later?
