Nathan Hale High—get it, High?—cheerleaders sucking the bong

This picture of Nathan Hale’s Raiders’ cheerleaders sucking the bong is from a couple of days ago. I was not going to post it, at least not without blurring faces and leaving the license plate off. The main reasons being, I don’t think marijuana should be illegal, and I don’t even use it, and I think kids deserve second chances.

Besides being stupid enough to do it in view of three businesses and more residences, like clockwork during the lunch hour, they’re on private property down there. They pushed it over the edge today throwing trash right in front of me and showing up too drunk to stand at the playground by their school which was full of little kids.

Nathan Hale bong social club

That creek they party on, it still has fish in it. Lots of trout but in seven years I’ve only seen salmon come up once and it doesn’t take much to kill them when they do. I see Nathan Hale students break trees, spray paint everything they can reach, piss in there, throw in empty beer cans, lunch trash, and cigarette butts and it’s over. You guys are done.

Update (30 April, 16:30)

Looks like some of the involved have discovered it. Comment did not post, again, because you have to use a real email address to do so. Had this to say–

This is unbelieveable. And no, I am not talking about the kids at your "priavte property". First of all, I'm pretty sure that creek is property of the city. Second of all...wow. Did you even think about what this article might do to those kids? If anyone got ahold of this - parents, the school, co-workers - these kids lives could be ruined. No college, graduation, or any of the other perks of high school. For all you know they're good kids, headed in the right direction...I mean, clearly they are involved in their school. So they smoke a little bit of pot and party...can you honestly say you didn't do the same when you were in high school? Or maybe you were a social outcast and had no friends...who knows. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't see any kind of drugs, bongs, pipes, alcohol even IN the pictures. But the point is, you should think before you post. This might be your website and you might be able to do whatever you want by the U.S. law, but try and take other s into consideration before you post potentially extremely damaging information.

p.s. And if you weren't such a prick you would realize most teenagers flee at the sight of an adult. If you told them you would call the cops or go to their school if they didn't leave, its almost certain they would never come back there and they would tell their friends not to head that way again.

I agree, it is a harsh thing to do. I had trouble making up my mind. It took 3 years of abusing me, my trust, and my time to make me do it. So, since I seem to have your attention. I’ll redact the pictures and plate.

I have caught Nathan Hale kids pissing on the little kids’ playground gym equipment. I have picked up more than one used condom from where 2 year-olds climb on slides. I’ve picked up bags worth of of trash. I watched two “friends” carry their buddy too drunk to stand off that same playground the day I posted this.

I have on several occasions talked to the kids, politely. Saying, “Please just don’t litter or break any plants.” I had a kid look me in the eye and tell me he had not just thrown a cigarette in my yard when I had watched him do it. That’s what I get in repayment for trust.

Now, some factual corrections to make sure you understand that in addition to pissing me off by fucking with stuff I care about you might try a polite request next time instead of a bunch of anonymous flame bait.

That property is private and not mine. There is an easement on it which is where the kids were sitting. The easement, as it goes nowhere and is clearly marked “Road End,” is not for public traffic. There is graffiti on the tree above the kids. Did they do it? I don’t know. Sure doesn’t look good though. I posted a small version of the photo. I have a big one where you can see the bong clearly. You can smoke tobacco in a bong so it proves nothing really, I just wanted to get your attention. I’m glad it worked.

An apology and written agreement to do some litter pick-up and talk with other students—if you’re really the good ones—about trash and graffiti would go a lot further than wild guesses about who I am and what you think I should be responsible for taking care of for other people in this world.

Contact and info for creek clean-up here.

Comments are closed.

I reiterate from the comments: This post was probably a mistake and I am sorry if this caused anyone trouble who didn’t deserve it. If I wrongly singled out kids who never threw a piece of litter in the creek, &c, and there is something I can do to help make up for it, write me directly; even if you have trashed stuff but you want to make good on it.

You aren't doing anything more than what these kids are probably already doing to themselves; the number of kids I've seen on facebook posting (sometimes as their profile picture) pics of them drinking underage or smoking weed is amazing. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

People do a lot of stupid things on facebook, actually. Do they really want potential employers/grad-schools/etc to know about that crazy threesome they had last night? LIKE OMG WTF LOL!!!!!!

Nice! And here I was agonizing over the decision but I think you’re right. It’s the terrible collision of teen lack of foresight + permanent nature of online stuff because you never know who cached it or copied it somewhere. I think it will be good for privacy, good manners, and civility eventually (as this generation raises their kids with a grasp of what it all means) but there will be a mess in between.

I support your decision, too; however, I fear any backlash on you if they are actually punished for the matter and find out who reported them.

Want me to email your local newspaper? I'd feel better if you weren't directly to blame. I think I'll post about it, regardless. Unfortunately,y I think you're my only reader in Seattle - maybe the USA.

Haha - coincidently, the school's latest bulletin announced a meeting about "DRUGS, ALCOHOL & TEENS":

Find out what drugs and alcohol are commonly used by teens, risk factors, protective factors, warning signs and what to do if you think your child is using. We’ll allow plenty of time for Q&A! Tuesday, May 1st, 7:00pm, LRC.

Maybe that would be a good time to show the photos you took.

You know his methods, Watson. *That*, my friend, is a bust. As for fear of any backlash, I actually chortled at that sweet commentary concern, completely forgetting that not everyone knows that the Seditious one walks with death in both hands. But what a splendid movie! Wow: Unsuspecting Nat Hale scruffians decide to take bumptious "revenge". Scenes of giggling and bonging as they bounce ideas around of what they'll get up to. Cut to his simple seditious log cabin (5 beds; he sleeps on the comfiest one, da floor) where El Sedders is expressionlessly getting his shit together. Shudder. I fear for those juveniles even as I type.

You know, all I can think of now is the scene in “Death Hunt” when they bust into his cabin, thinking he’s dead after shooting it full of holes, and he’s lying down in a little trench he dug in the floor and he says, “Welcome,” in that slightly pleased monotone Bronson has, and gives the guy a load of buckshot.

Life has no 2nd acts but comments do. Had no idea a father's recommendation fell on lynx ears but elder girl apparently reads Sedition, writes in with shy suggested improvement. It's tighter, less pretentious, and it works.

Dad: i'm checking out 'Death Hunt'. Chas Bronson is cool. Remember Chato's Land? You pointed out the white guys staggering in the heat versus Chato's steady pad.

Log cabin attack: Remember the start of 'Silverado'?

This is ridiculous, posting this isn't going to stop anything all it is going to do is get some otherwise good kids in trouble. I understand your frusterations with the littering etc. but runing these girls lives because you're frusterated with littering is the most ridiculous thing ever. These girls are all seniors, all with plans to go to college, and before you blurred the faces and the liscence plate a link was sent the principle of the school. Does that make you proud? That you just ruined several good girls lives for hitting the bong a couple times like nearly all teenagers do? It is actually disgusting to me the sort of sick pleasure that people are getting from this.

Re: Nathan Hale High bong social club

some otherwise good kids

I have no idea if they are. Can you show me they are? What makes them good kids? They volunteer at the hospital? They don’t gang up with the jocks to bully the goths and geeks or form cliques in the lunchroom? They raise money for parks or scholarships or something? They do reading programs for children, immigrants, or the elderly? What makes a kid good in your judgement?

runing these girls lives because you're frusterated with littering is the most ridiculous thing ever

A cigarette butt or two can kill a waterbird if they eat it by mistake. A couple batteries dumped out of an MP3 player can kill an entire batch of Coho. Doesn’t take much litter to destroy something very special we’ve got here in Seattle—nature in an urban setting. It’s not a joke and respect for others includes others’ property; which includes park and city property too.

Does that make you proud?

No, it makes me sad and scared I directed my frustration at kids who really didn’t deserve it.

That you just ruined several good girls lives for hitting the bong a couple times like nearly all teenagers do?

Something important to understand before it’s too late for you to do anything about it in your life is that it doesn’t matter at all what others do. Only what you do. Short of violence or accidents no one can ruin your life but you. Anyone telling you anything else is not your friend.

sort of sick pleasure that people are getting from this

You misunderstand this. What it is is that people—people who pay their bills, take care of their responsibilities, and don’t blame others for their mistakes—are sick to death of seeing others get away with shitty behavior, and especially then acting like it’s 1) normal, 2) not actually bad, 3) somehow private when done out in the open. Fucking up someone else’s stuff is most all that Iraq is. It’s just a matter of scale.

No one I know, no one who reads this site, would take pleasure in a kid getting shafted. Again, if I conflated shitty behavior with good kids accidentally I’m mortified and I am truly sorry. Show me you kids are in fact good kids—in terms upon which we may all agree—and I’ll take this down and write a letter to the principal and school on your behalf or anything else you ask. Show me you even want to try and I will. My email is on the contact page if you want to do it privately.

What you need to think about is that it would have only taken one of you, one time, to pick up a piece of trash or ask your friend to do it, or not to spraypaint SENIORS 2007!!! at Meadowbrook, or to insist your friend stop dropping the f-bomb in front of little kids at the playground, if I had seen that just one single time, I would have been able to look past all the bad behavior and not done this post.

Character. Everyone makes mistakes, does stupid stuff. Especially when we're young. What really shows what kind of man or woman you are (or are growing into) is how you handle yourself when you do screw up (or your kid does).

What shows the kind of parent or principal you are is how you guide your young adults to build character. Time to stand up and lead.

I'd love to see the Nathan Hale Cheerleaders Adopt this Creek. Or at least organize a Spring Clean-Up.

HA! What a joke this posting is. First, where are the teens in the photos flaunting what they are doing, acting so "cool." Sure this may be in a public area, however they are just sitting there. Secondly, is smoking weed such a bad thing? C'mon, just because you don't think it is right doesn't make it wrong, even though it's illegal, which still doesn't prove you point one bit.

Re: Nathan Hale High bong social club

Hi,

To the purveyor this web site, why did you 'swiftboat' these kids? You have no evidence that any of those whose pictures you took did any of the things that have made you so angry. They were there, they were smoking weed, and you took their pictures. Therefore, they must be guilty! That's fundamentally un-American. People are innocent until proven guilty, and the only thing you've proven is that you can take pictures of teenagers. Further, in one of the pictures, it simply looks like some kids sitting around. Your rationale for switfboating these particular kids is no better than the Bush adminstration's arguments for going to war on Iraq. You were angry and you lashed out; the problem is, you don't even know if you are lashing out at the right people. You should be ashamed of yourself.

If you have proof that these particular kids were vandalizing this area, let's see it. Otherwise, you've pretty much taken a page out of Karl Rove's playbook. I don't buy guilt by innuendo, and neither does the American justice system, but it sure does work on the web, doesn't it?

So, you don't seem so 'gutsy' to me. In fact, I think you owe these kids an apology. They weren't bothering you, and yet you stalked them, took their pictures without their consent, and then proceeded to slander them in a public forum. May your web site return to the oblivion from which it came. Let's hope your child does not receive similar treatment in the future.

By Mike on 1 May 2007 · 19:48

Mike

Re: Nathan Hale High bong social club

Another thing, you say that if these kids somehow let you know that they are good kids you'll remove the posting. Who are you to determine if they are good kids or not? Maybe you need to prove to them that you are a good person, instead of some kind of stalker taking surreptitious pictures of teenage cheerleaders.

By Mike on 1 May 2007 · 20:06

Ashley

Re: Nathan Hale High bong social club

You’re right, I lashed out. It was a bad day with other kids and I might have picked the wrong kids to try to straighten out. I did apologize if that’s true.

Frankly I do feel bad about the situation. So much that I said I’d apologize and try to undo any harm even if they had been trashing stuff yet were willing to make some sort of gesture to fix things. Nobody’s written or responded to that. Or anything, except to say that I’m a prick, asshole, loser, stalker, and unpopular and that getting high in the middle of the school day when you can’t correctly spell 20 words consecutively isn’t hurting anyone and everyone does it anyway so it doesn’t matter.

Stalking? Man, the cross country girls went down there to skinny dip and I did not take pictures of that. There was no trash or graffiti down there back then either. That magically coincided with the lunchtime and Friday afternoon pot parties. Yeah it’s circumstantial evidence but given enough of it, it does convince juries. Since they all come to this spot it seems likely any of the “good” kids know the bad and don’t give a damn.

May your web site return to the oblivion from which it came.

Good luck with the rest of your hopes and wishes in life. We’ve been here for 8.6 years, much longer if you count stuff archived from print publication, and we’re paid up for 10 more.

Re: Nathan Hale High bong social club

Here's the thing. Some people regularly trash the park near where I live, especially in the warmer months. But I don't lump every teenager I see in the park, or every teenager I see smoking weed in the park, together. That's nothing more than profiling. When you say 'they', you are putting all of these high school kids in the same boat. And I can go over to the park on any given day, take a picture of some teens at random, put it on my web site, tell the school that 'they' are trashing the park, and those kids will have hell to pay just because I put it on my site and said so. That doesn't seem right to me.

If somebody is trashing this area, the individuals doing it should be held accountable. However, what is not included in any of these postings, is any proof that these particular kids are the ones doing the trashing. It's just those Nathan Hale students; what? all of them? I'd be willing to bet, however, that it is the particular kids in the photos (the unwitting poster children of this web site owner's crusade) that are being raked over the coals by the administrators at Nathan Hale High School.

My question is still the same, were these specific kids the ones who have been trashing this area, or urinating on the playground, or stumbling through the playground drunk? And, as anybody who has smoked their share of pot will attest, I don't necissarily include getting high in the list of obnoxious behaviors. I don't know the particular spot where this is happening, but it is probably a popular party spot, and some kids trash it and some don't, just like the partiers at my local park.

Yes, I get very angry at the jerks who scrawl graffiti on the walls at my park, leave their trash all over the place, and show their disrespect for the commons in other ways, but stereotyping high school students doesn't help the situation.

Re: Nathan Hale High bong social club

I said this already, Mike. I essentially agree with you. I did try everything else first to get them to stop coming down here. This is the culmination of 3 years of benefit of the doubt and attempting other solutions.

Right or wrong, the post is made. It was (reportedly) seen by school admins right away so it was too late to take it down. The only thing I can think to make it better is the offer I made to write to the school, or parents or anyone they want, if they show me there is a reason.

It is not my job to teach every incoming class or kid in Lake City how to behave in public or to explain to them that breaking federal laws actually just might maybe have some kind of consequences. Even if pot were legal, which I think it should be, it would not be legal for those under 18 and for good reason.
